Hey there BAPpers! This is the first entry in our new PCT Thru Hiker blog.
Michael Boza (hence-forth referred to as BLACK SANTA, trail name dubbed on the Appalachian Trail) began the PCT this morning, 4/26/2019, at the southern terminus in Campo, CA with 50 other hikers - long distance hiking on the PCT is regulated by permit, allowing 50 hikers to begin the trail each day.
The Pacific Crest Trail Association describes the trail on their website (https://www.pcta.org/discover-the-trail/):
"The Pacific Crest Trail spans 2,650 miles (4,265 kilometers) from Mexico to Canada through California, Oregon, and Washington. It is a National Scenic Trail. It reveals the beauty of the desert, unfolds the glaciated expanses of the Sierra Nevada, travels deep forests, and provides commanding vistas of volcanic peaks in the Cascade Range. The trail symbolizes everything there is to love—and protect—in the Western United States."
"Untold thousands of hikers and equestrians enjoy this international treasure each year. Some only travel a few miles, while others complete every mile in a single season. Tying the trail together is a community of volunteers and passionate outdoor enthusiasts. Together, we explore, create and support one of the best experiences on earth.
"Adventure, nature, and friendship await. Join us."
NOW.. JOIN US IN CHEERING ON BLACK SANTA AS HE BEGINS HIS JOURNEY NORTH, one foot after the other, through wilderness, snow, sand, sun, and rain! It will be quite the adventure, and we look forward to sharing it with Black Santa, who will be making all future posts.
We encourage and insist that you comment with words of support for our BAP! Thu-hiker.
